If you know us, you know that every birthday is celebrated in some way at Green Valley. It might mean Red Velvet cake, Chocolate cake, Cheesecake, or Lemon Bars depending on the celebrated individual but you can bet that the special day doesn’t go unnoticed or without some form of sugary treats being involved. Birthdays are a time to celebrate, to make that special person feel even more special on their day. It's a time to get together with friends and family and forget the calories, the carbs and a normal routine.
Green Valley had the privilege of throwing the BIGGEST Birthday Bash EVER for Second Home of Harrisonburg, VA.
This Birthday party was for every child who is enrolled in Second Home and they even had the opportunity to bring along their family members.
Supported by the community, Second Home is a before and after school program that is affordable to families of a lower income. They have been in effect since 2007, helping children further their educational, social and life skills by providing them with an environment that helps them reach their full potential. Their focus is primarily on children who are at risk due to their parents work schedules that cause them to not be able to be at home when their children are at home. Field trips, nutritious snacks, community projects, hands on activities and meeting influential people in the community are just a few ways that Second Home helps to give inspiration for successful school years and hope in a productive and healthy future.
Green Valley has supported Second Home for quite some time now.
We fully believe in what they do for these children and their families and we want to always be a part of it.
We decided to show our support and love for Second Home by hosting a Birthday Bash for each child who is enrolled in Second Home. Many times, these children aren’t able to have extravagant birthday parties filled with games, cakes, face painting and full of friends participating in the activities alongside them. This is why we baked 14 cakes, blew up 75 balloons, asked for all the volunteer help we could find and threw a Birthday Bash with popcorn, hamburgers, hot dogs, cotton candy, face painting, balloon animals, prizes, slime, hoola-hooping, a photo booth and games galore.
The evening couldn’t have went any better.
We started set up at about 3:30 p.m. and by 5:00 p.m. you saw faces smashed against windows trying to get a peep at the surprises, kids literally jumping for joy and busting at the seams to get through the door to THEIR Birthday Party. A party that they could call their very own. Every child you saw had an ear to ear grin sealed on their faces and at each station you could hear laughter and giggles from even the farthest corner of the room. Moms, Dads, Brothers and Sisters enjoyed their time spent together as a family celebrating their child’s Birthday – maybe a little early, maybe a little late but that was beside the point.
It was a time to celebrate, to laugh, to soak in the “being together” and make some new memories.
This event couldn’t have been successful if it weren’t for the 90+ volunteers that we had.
From Green Valley Auction customers and employees, Green Valley Moving guys, Crosslink Community Church members, and people from the community who wanted to be part of something really awesome and really big, we couldn’t have done it without them. It was amazing to see such a large group of people willing to sacrifice a Friday evening after a rather long week at work to help throw a Birthday party for families they’ve never met. THANK YOU to each and every participant. Your hearts are big and we appreciate you so much.

Much to our excitement, Birthdays come and go every year.
We absolutely cannot wait to throw the BIGGEST Birthday Bash EVER….AGAIN.
